London – Bank on History

Want to see how George Washington spent his money? You can.  See some of his account at the Bank of England Museum, along with those of other famous historic persons, who trusted this bank with their fortunes, even though it may have been half a world away!

The Bank of England still stands in one of the most historic, ancient parts of the city — Londonium, and in its former building you can also see a wide variety objects to underscore the antiquity of this site. The area has been inhabited since Roman times, 2,000 years ago.

Pair up a visit to the museum with a lunch visit to one of the few historic taverns left in this oldest area, and walk over to the Tower of London or go up Tower Hill.

The Old Lady of Threadneedle Street is very much alive and kicking, even in these crazy financial times.  Make a bee-line to change some money at the current bank, then go around the corner to visit the Museum nearby. It’s free.
