Washington DC – Day Trip 1 – Hunt Country

Washington DC is full of possibilities for tourists, but, even more, the City is surrounded by many other wonderful choices! Virginia Hunt country is just one enclave that lets you see a side of America which is hard to find these days. It reflects the centuries of tradition and colonial savoir-faire that only the wealthy or well-connected can aspire to, generation after generation.

The countryside there is exquisite, and there’s an inn, which makes the 45 minute journey become a destination for other explorations or just to rest, as the famous guests, like President Bush’ married daughter, Jenna Bush, does when she has business in DC.

Of course, especially as the days lengthen, you can just come for a meal, without staying and incurring extra tariff for a room, but there’s something to be said for just soaking-up the ambience and atmosphere of Virginia’s renowned “Hunt Country”, which is possibly more English than many parts of Britain are today, as it is holding old English traditions close.

It’s definitely serious Horse Country and formal, English riding is what brings many to the area.

The inn of which I spoke is The Goodstone Inn & Estate, a luxurious 18-room country retreat in Middleburg, Virginia, situated in the heart of renowned Hunt & Wine Country, a mere 45 minutes from Washington, DC. The historic property features 5 star-quality lodging in 6 separate dwellings. More about it all next time!
