Washington DC – Breakfasts With Kids

When you travel with your children, you want ease and service and a chance for the whole family to enjoy a positive, new experience. If you come from overseas, then it is even more important to have an experience which is as close to an ordinary American one, too.

So, in choosing these next restaurants, parents voted and these are the results.

For Brunch, first Choice is the Carlyle Grand Cafe, in the Shirlington section of Arlington, Virginia, and if you have a car or are willing to go by bus, then it’s a fairly straight-shot from downtown DC. It is part of a chain of restaurants, several of which are in the Washington metro area.

The menu is an updated type of ethnic melting-pot American cooking.
As appetizers, try the Blue-crab fritter or the house-made potato chips drizzled with blue cheese, then move on to entrées such as pecan-crusted trout, veal meat loaf, and roast pork tenderloin with a citrus glaze.

Also, check out the crabcakes, steaks and all of their salads especially the salmon salad, pot stickers, quesadillas, quick-seared tuna and sesame seed.

For desserts, look at the warm flourless chocolate-macadamia nut waffle with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce. It has become a local classic. Most of their desserts are delicious – banana bread pudding, apple pie and more.Their service is usually good, too. When the weather is nice, sit outside.

Regular meals are in the $19 range.

There is a chance to call ahead to get on the waiting-list, if you will arrive within 15 – 20 minutes, usually. Families are best off in the quieter area upstairs. The rest-rooms have changing tables and there are plenty of high chairs. Children are welcome and there is a kids menu. It’s also wheelchair accessible.
