Washington, DC Holiday Celebrations 1

Welcome to Washington, DC at seasonal holiday time. This beautifully planned city is aglow with a special ambience like no other, at this time of year, in part because Washington, DC is still a human-scale city. That might surprise many first-time visitors.

Just today, by horse-drawn carriage, the White House Christmas Tree arrived, one day after Thanksgiving was celebrated.

The Obama children rushed outside to greet the horse and the tree! But Mr. Obama was inside, nursing a stitched lip; he was injured playing basketball earlier in the day.

This tree is the principal one on display in the White House. It is headed for the famed Blue Room. But, for those lucky enough to see inside the White House in this season, one will see tens of trees, in various places, including the Family Quarters, of course.

Volunteers and the WH professional floral staff will do all the hard work.

Sasha and Malia Obama received it as a military band played “Oh Christmas Tree” and the family gave the gift — a Douglas fir from Christopher Botek’s farm in Lehighton, Pennsylvania — a thumbs up.

Look for more information as we receive it.
