Montreal’s Restaurants – Moderate 3

Where does world-famous entertainer, Céline Dion, and her husband, René Angelil, eat when they come back to Montreal, her home turf?

Restaurant Daou. Céline Dion could certainly afford to fly her lunch in from Beirut, on a chartered jet, but when she and her hubby — whose parents were both Syrians — are in town, this is where they come to get their Lebanese food. This is a family-run Lebanese restaurant which has been in business in Montreal since the 1970s.

The hummus with ground meat, stuffed grape leaves, and delicately seasoned kabobs attract plenty of Middle Eastern expatriates and native-born Montrealers. They serve the most garlicky garlic chicken anywhere, as well as the best shish taouk in town. Its plain inside, but the walls are decorated with snapshots of Céline Dion because it’s her favorite restaurant.

And one last well-regarded moderate restaurant is Pullman.

This restaurant specializes in bio-dynamic, organic, artisanal natural wines (90% of them are private imports, mainly from France). The wine bar is open from cocktail hour to the wee hours, and you’ll find it full of wine geeks and other bon vivants. Their downtown location is near festival grounds and music venues, so they include a tapas menu – examples: gravlax, cod, charcuterie plate, venison tartar, calamari with salsa verde mayo, foie gras, mini bison burgers, Seasonal offerings, cheese, sweets – chocolate truffles, profiterols and more.
