San Francisco – Everyday Insider! (TM) Trip 19

Today I am starting a series about San Francisco’s famed Golden Gate Park and it is also one of your stops on the City’s famous 49 Mile Drive!

I am continuing this list of Everyday Insider! (TM) events or venues so tourists to San Francisco can use to enjoy California life with the locals.

And, Golden Gate Park is like San Francisco’s living room. Lots of locals enjoy its original 1,017 acres (4 sq. km) of sand dunes, lawns and forest glens. There are lots of locally-sponsored events on week-ends, especially, and there’s a Park Shuttle to help you traverse the huge area, on week-ends.

As an overview, in GG Park you can visit: Kezar Stadium, National AIDS Memorial Grove, Koret Playground, Stowe Lake for fishing, Strybing Arboretum, De Young Asian Art Museum, California Academy of Sciences (which includes the Aquarium and Planetarium), Japanese Tea Garden, Conservatory of Flowers, Dutch Windmills, Golden Gate Park bison and miles of drives, green lawns, playfields, bridle paths, lakes and outdoor fields of flowers.

Additionally, there are bike and boat rentals, roller blade and archery rentals nearby, regular free music concerts on Sundays and Lindy dancing. All kinds of wonderful restaurants exist in the surrounding neighborhoods, which are usually not on the tourist-track.

Bring a jacket. Near the park’s western edge, it meets the ocean. Therefore, you can enjoy the rich sea scent of the fog as it rolled into the Bay Area from the Pacific. It’s a wonderful place to enjoy San Francisco and San Franciscans!
