San Francisco – Help Create a New Ballet!

If you are planning to be in San Francisco any time from Friday, May 28, 2010 to June 13, 2010, you might consider becoming part of the process of creating a new ballet.

The Main Performances of the new ballet will be June 11 – 13, 2010 and every day in between, the ballet will evolve, with input from the public viewing the creative process by inviting audiences to observe, make recordings, ask questions, and contribute to the journaling (and ultimately production) of the installation.

All of this takes place at the Marina Abramovic Institute West, on Sutter Street where they are pleased to present a three week performance installation entitled “Making Visible”.

It features San Francisco Ballet former Principal (and Visiting Dancer from Stanford University) Muriel Maffre, SF Ballet Principal Dancer Damian Smith, choreographer Folawole and composer Paul Dooley.

This is the first of its kind collaborative public creation for the San Francisco Bay Area, and it will consist of a series of dance rehearsals that will make visible the creative process of two dancers, a choreographer and a composer as they build a site specific performance. Many people have never seen a ballet, and no-one wants to lose this part of the Arts. So, the medium is evolving and hoping to stimulate interest in creating new works as well as exposing young people to the idea of becoming dancers.

As most of this is a free event, you can’t lose!
