Vancouver, B. C. – Kosher Restaurants

It’s amazing how few real kosher restaurants there are in some cities. I wanted to check out the situation in Vancouver, B.C. as the Winter Olympic Games 2010 will start there in less than 2 months. I was shocked at the kosher restaurant situation.

The Chabad Lubovitch Orthodox Jews are offering to provide Kosher food and more for Olympic visitors with Orthodox kosher needs. There are a few other venues, but not many.

If I find more, I’ll add them later, but as of now, on this last day of Hanukkah, this is what I have found. It’s difficult, as there is not a large Jewish population in Vancouver. Why is that? Well, all I can say is that my family wanted to move there in 1965, but we decided against it when we felt definite, subtle anti-semitism.

Maybe that’s why it has been a place where many fewer Jewish families have settled than would ordinarily have been there for its size and importance in Canada. I don’t know for sure, but back then, it was uncomfortable, so we stayed in San Francisco.
