London – Xmas Markets 1

The year-end Holiday Season has started. In London this year, there are a couple of new entries for holiday shopping venues, but I’m starting with this one as it’s in the very heart of London and may not be there next year!

You’ll already find the first ever Oxford Street Christmas Market blossoming this year on a soon-to-be-developed vacant lot diagonally from world famous Selfridges’ department store.

There’s a good range of Christmas gifts and toys laid out at wooden chalet stalls. The ‘Bratwurst’ sausages create the atmosphere of an authentic German market — why it “needs” to be “German”, I don’t know! The other “new” market, which I’ll cover another time, also has a German theme. What’s wrong with “English”?

Oxford Street is London’s prime retail real estate, so it’s inspired to use the vacant lot for this holiday purpose before other new buildings rise. The regular merchants may or may not appreciate the competition, but it will be interesting, for sure, as well as convenient.

This Christmas Market, creates a festive winter escape in the heart of London. The Oxford Street Christmas Lights add to the festive feel and you can still combine a shopping trip to Market as well as tp the nearby retail giants of Oxford Street: Selfridges, John Lewis, Debenhams (lit up in gold) and House of Fraser (in red).

You’ll find the Christmas Market taking up an entire block of Oxford Street with Park Street at one end and North Audley Street at the other.
